SPSS Licensing For Faculty & Staff


Faculty and staff at the U of S are able to buy a one year license of SPSS; students are not eligible to purchase SPSS under this licensing agreement. The license price is not pro-rated and expires August 1, 2013. Current licensed users of SPSS will be notified by mail before the expiry date. Licenses purchased under this program must be charged to either a CFOAPAL account number or to a PCARD.

An optional order form is now available for your convenience; it can be electronically filled out and emailed. This form is no longer required but may make your license renewal easier.

Important to note:


  • Students are not allowed to purchase or borrow SPSS licenses or media on behalf of their supervisor.
  • Staff and faculty may only install this software on University-owned or controlled computers. You may not install the software on personal computers or laptops that are provided to students, doing so will place the UofS at risk of non-compliance and all licensing for SPSS removed campus-wide.
  • Licensing is $65.00 plus applicable taxes per year, per computer (Windows and Mac OS X).
  • Staff and faculty may purchase a copy of the installation disks for $20 (+ tax).
  • SPSS v20 is the most current version available to the UofS. Current licenses are only applicable for v20. If you do not wish to upgrade and need a license for an earlier version, we may be able to supply older keys on a case-by-case basis.
  • 1200 licenses are available to for purchase each year.

    Requirements for lab pricing eligibility:

    • 1. Lab-use licenses are meant for teaching of SPSS to students
    • 2. Is a per seat license (not concurrently licensed)
    • 3. Virtualization is not allowed under any license
    • 4. Can only be installed on University-owned machines
    • 5. Students who are using SPSS while acting as employees cannot use the lab licenses (so if a student also a research assistant, then they cannot use the lab licenses to do SPSS work for their research assistant employment. They can, however, still use the SPSS lab license for class related statistics)
    • 6. Faculty and staff should not be using the lab licenses (meaning that if they need to use SPSS they should not walk into one of the labs and use the lab licenses installed there, they should be purchasing the staff license and having it installed on their local machine)

    SPSS Licensing For Students


    Students are not eligible for the above licensing program; however, the Campus Computer Store is able to sell SPSS Grad Packs. The SPSS Grad Pack is a one-year license that is for student use only and may only be installed on students' personal computers (or a laptop given to the student by the University). It can not be placed on the University's housed computers.
